Cold War Never Ended

I think by now we can all probably agree that the Cold War never actually ended. Putin is bombing Syria, and not where ISIS forces are located. He is purposely backing the Syrian President because he knows that the United States does not. Now some of you may think, well that doesn't prove that the Cold War never ended. But just think about it for a moment, why else would Russia and Putin support a President who is clearly not doing anything to try to get rid of ISIS, and is actually calling the rebels that are trying to get ISIS out of their country, the terrorists.
The U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter stated, "It does appear they were in areas where there probably not [ISIS] forces. The reason why the Russian position is contradictory is the potential for them to strike, which they may well have, are in areas where ISIS is not present."  Also, "The Russian approach is doomed to fail," he said.
These strikes are meant to aid Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's fight against ISIS, however, the strikes include attacks on areas held by Western-backed rebels who are fighting the Assad regime.
One of my closest friends is from Russia, and strongly believes that the Cold War never truly ended. The US and Russia were just finding a new way to continue it.

Well that is all for now.

More on this topic, hopefully, later.
