Day two of Government Shutdown

Sorry this is  a little late and by that I mean a day. So yesterday my boss emailed me saying he wouldn't be coming in unless he felt better. He would have called but he had left his cell phone in the office. So my day was hectic. Too much stuff and I can't even describe it. But I was in the office until about 8:30 last night. Morning commute to work was not too bad. A few more people on the bus than on Day One. Since I left so late my commute was very nice. Hardly anyone on the bus. I got home at 9pm and I was surprised that Roommate dinner had not started. Nick and Reza had not gotten home yet. So dinner was actually at like 10:30. They made pheasant. Sarah prepared the salad and asparagus. Paul made roasted potatoes and his own birthday cake. Taylor made apple pie pockets. Still have yet to have mine though. I was saving it for breakfast. Which is not breakfast time and I am getting hungry.

Back to why my boss was sick. He had appendicitis. He stopped by the office to pick up his cell phone. And told me he was going to the hospital. He looked like he was in a lot of pain and could barely walk. He had the laparoscopic surgery and is recovering now. He will be released this afternoon.

Day One Government Shutdown Continued

My day was hardly affected by the Government Shutdown today. My bus this morning was practically empty. Which if you know anything about DC buses then you know that if you can get a seat on your way to work it is a miracle. I got numerous phone calls throughout the day asking if the government shutdown was going to affect us at work. For the time being no, it will not. On my way home from work, there was traffic but what do you expect from Georgetown on M street?

My boss was sick today but was still at work today. So I did most of his work as well as mine.

Tonight was Tipsy Tuesday, where we drank wine and played games and talked about the government shutdown.

I hope everyone stays safe during the government shutdown.....

Day One of Government Shutdown!

Today's blog post is day one of the government shutdown. So far everything seems the same but that could be because I have yet to leave the apartment. But all I can really say at the moment is that if any part of day is even the tiniest bit affected I will blame Obama! Because of this shutdown, liberals will continue to call conservatives morons, conservatives will continue to call liberals communists, President Obama will continue to look inept at running this country as he usually does. People will continue to spew their uneducated political opinions all over Facebook and Twitter while absolutely nothing gets done.

Just because the government has shutdown, doesn't mean we stop paying taxes people!

Happy Shutdown everyone! Stay safe!

live laugh love

It has been a while since I posted anything on here. Mostly because I have been super busy with my new job. I have been there over a month and my boss apparently trusts me enough to leave me in charge of the office for a week. Either that or he didn't really have a choice in the matter.

It has been an amazing summer so far. Loving every minute living with my sister Sarah!

There is so much I could probably up-date y'all on but my brain is fried at the moment.

first week

I am excited for the weekend. I have been going to bed so early and waking up so early that I just can't wait to sleep in. I wont be doing much this weekend because I get paid next weekend and I'd like to save what little money I have for my birthday weekend!.

Since I am not going home for the 4th of July/my birthday.... I am hoping my sister and best friend will come here. I've already have my roommate here :) and her sister is coming! YAY Now I just need my sister and best friend!

Work is going well. I don't like dealing with the customers on the phone though. Hopefully today will be a little less stressful.

First Day of Work

Today was my first official day of work. Now I cannot go into specifics (at least I don't think I can)... I work at a passport and visa service company. Highlights of my day: Finding out my boss is a Republican and him taking me to the Ritz Carlton for lunch and I had a lobster roll and truffle fries. IT WAS AMAZING!!! Over all good first day of work. I have a feeling that my boss and I are going to get along just fine. Tomorrow is casual friday, however the girl I am replacing is going to be training me for the week and she said that she usually dresses pretty casual.

While I was concluding this post my computer shut down on me at like 20% battery left....
Once I have some money I might invest in a new mac!

Job Interview

This morning I woke up had my ice coffee and did my ab workout, then did my hair and make up while watching Rookie Blue and preparing for my interview. I like the building, and the boss seems nice. I got back and made myself a grilled cheese with texas pete and now I am finishing up my laundry and cleaning. I am trying to decide when to go on my run.... Once my laundry is done or now....

Either way I going for another mile. Hopefully with a little less walking at the end.

Happy Father's Day

Today was Father's Day... The whole day I was wishing I was home to spend time with my dad! I haven't seen him in over a month. Which is way too long. He's the one who is responsible for the person that I am today. He made sure I did my homework in high school. Picked me up from school when I stayed late. He taught me how to drive. He taught me how to sail. He is not perfect but to me, he has been the best dad. I am a daddy's girl. Even when he does things I don't like, he will always be my dad and I will always look up to him.

I love my dad so much!

Memorial Day

It has been a while since I posted anything. I am truly sorry! I wish I could blame it on the fact my job has kept me busy. But the truth is I am unemployed. I just moved to Washington DC last week. I have applied to a handful of jobs but I need something right now because I need to pay rent and buy food.

There are many things I should catch you up on like I went back to college earlier this month to walk at graduation. And all I am going to say that it was very memorable. Shit went down, there may have been a argument as well.

Now living in DC has been great. On my second night here I went to my god brother's graduation dinner where I got to see my god mother who I hadn't seen probably 6ish years. I was amazed that she wasn't drinking (she's an alcoholic). There was some flirting with my god brother's cousin and myself which we were then yelled at my said god brother. Okay for clarification: I am not related to any of these people. Most people think I am cause most people are related to their god parents but I am not. My 2 god mothers are my mom's friends and my god father is my dad's former boarding school/college roommate.

Okay I should wrap this up cause I need to clean up some.

I NEED ALCOHOL NOW

I am moving to Washington DC next month. Right now I am trying to iron out the details of the specific date. I want to move on the 17th, however, my mother has made it her life mission to piss me off in every way possible. She says she can't help me until the 25th. She doesn't seem to think that my older sister is responsible enough to look after our friend's golden retriever.

Right now I could really use a couple of bottles of wine and a movie. I don't what what movie I am in the mood to watch something romantic and maybe sad but nothing that will maybe annoy me. Maybe my mother is right. Maybe I am becoming an alcoholic. But then again, I could argue that she is the one driving me to drink. Which is why I need to move out of this house and down to DC, so I don't become an alcoholic.

I want to pack away all my belongings and get away from all of this stuff right now. Have a nice glass of wine and relax.

(sorry for the rant but sometimes talking about these things just help)

Yacht Club Life

Yesterday was the commissioning of my yacht club. It was also a dear friend's 21st birthday and Foxfields. I wish I could have been around for all three but I can't be in three different states at once and much as I would like to be. The commissioning of a yacht club is the way we celebrate the beginning of the sailing season. Everyone dressed up, drinking champagne, eating expensive food. It is wonderful.

There was not a whole lot of wind, but the weather was great! It was a perfect day to be by the water.

I am so excited for the summer! Lots of sailing and parties to attend!

More to follow about up coming events I will be attending!

And I will hopefully know soon what day I will be moving to DC. I need to find a job so I can pay the bills as well.

R.I.P.

I just realized that before just posting my rant about Looney Tunes, my last post was about my dog Hoover. I am sorry to say that he passed away last weekend. This house has been so empty and lonely. I miss him so much! He is in doggy heaven with our other dogs: Madison, Ginger, Molly, and Purdey!

In order our dogs: Madison, Ginger, Molly, Hoover, and Purdey.

In order of passing: Molly, Madison, Ginger, Purdey, and then Hoover

I miss them all terribly but I am happy they are all together playing and sleeping.

Looney Tunes

I have recently been babysitting a few times a week for family friends. They have a 4 year old boy, he is filled with energy every time I see him. The other day, before going to the park I thought I would let him watch some Looney Tunes because I loved that show growing up.... But his father came over and told me to turn it off and that they don't let him watch it because it is "too violent."

He then told me I will understand when I have kids. Of course, I said I did but I was really thinking "OMFG is they guy crazy??? Do you really not let your kid watch Looney Tunes??"

I feel bad for this boy sometimes. His parents buy him wonderfully preppy clothes which is a plus but also make him eat incredibly healthy organic stuff that grosses me out then doesn't let him watch classic cartoons!

What has the world come to?

Prayers for Hoover!

My poor dog has been in the hospital since Saturday. At first the vet thought he might have some kind of auto-immune disorder but today he now thinks he was bitten by a tick but not the kind around here that carry lime disease. The type of disease the vet thinks he has is Ehrichiosis. Which is only found in the southwest. We had been going down to Virginia bringing the dog for 5 years. So it is possible that he was bitten any point in the past 5 years and is just now showing the symptoms. I am praying that this is what is wrong with him because there is a cure!

In other news, I started working on getting the deck ready for the summer. Starting my chipping away the old paint, next step is sanding. I need to let the wood dry out because it rained last night and it is going to rain again tomorrow. So hopefully Monday I can start painting!

Please keep my dog Hoover in your prayers! We miss him and hope he can come home soon!

The Lilly girl is always full of surprises.
She lives everyday like it's a celebration.
Never has a dull moment.
And makes every hour a happy hour.

Life update

On Sunday, only a few hours after church service Constance passed away. A service was help at the Greek Orthodox church. It was a lovely service. It was a sad occasion, but I was happy that my sister came out for it.

This evening my sister came back out for the weekend. I am so happy she is home! I am also happy that I don't have to babysit tomorrow so hopefully we can get massages! But either way I get paid tomorrow! YAY money!

Looking forward to Easter and spending time with family!

I was hoping to go down to Charlottesville next month but I don't think I can justify spending the money if I don't have a job. I actually don't really want to find a job. I like being at home. I don't like being lazy and laying in bed all the time. But I've been babysitting and I like the money.

I also need to start working on getting my boat fixed!

Well that is an update on my life!

Palm Sunday

This morning I woke up at 7am. That's right people I woke up at 7am! I showered, blow dried my hair, put my make-up on and put on a lovely green dress with my navy and green blazer (both from Anthropologie) and navy heels and went to church for the Palm Sunday service! It was a lovely service that started outside. I was sinking into the grass the whole time which was distracting. My parents and I sat with friends. During the service I found out that a family friend's wife was supposed to pass away three days ago. She has cancer. She is in my prayers. I realize that praying for her to get better is pointless so I pray that she doesn't suffer.

If any of you are wondering why I haven't posted in a week it is because I was sick and decided to sleep and try to make my self better and watch a lot of Psych on Netflix! It is a great show about two best friends, one of them is a fake psychic who helps the police solve cases and the other is a pharmaceutical salesman who helps his best friend on the side! Some of my favorite lines from the show are: "Gus, don't be a giant snapping turtle", "Gus, don't be a rapid porcupine", "Gus, don't be exactly half of an eleven-pound black forest ham", "Shawn: Gus, don't be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Marzipan. Gus: It's Azkaban. Shawn: I've heard it both ways."

I hope you all have an amazing Palm Sunday!

St. Patrick's Day

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day! The day that everyone is Irish and drinks to excess! A day of drunk debauchery! Well for most people anyway. But for me yesterday I woke up to bacon and french toast and ice coffee! We were going to make our coffees Irish but we realized to late that the Bailey's we had in our house had in fact gone bad!

(Here is my dog Hoover and part of my plate)

(BACON)

By around 5 o'clock my mother and I decided it was time to start drinking. I made myself a Madras: Vodka, Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice and a wedge of Lime.

(Madras in a Mason Jar)

Dinner : Corned Beef, Cabbage, Potatoes, Carrots and Irish beer!

I hope y'all had a Happy St. Patrick's Day!
And that y'all aren't too hungover for work today!

DIY: Mason Jar To-Go Cup

I love mason jars. I have seen so many ideas how to use them thanks to pinterest! And today I finally decided to try the DIY: Mason Jar To-Go Cup! It is really easy and takes very little time! I have seen Mason Jar To-Go Cups at Bed Bath and Beyond but they were plastic. I don't want plastic! I want the real thing!

Today I embarked to Home Depot and bought #14 Finishing Washers in Stainless. Besides that you will obviously need a mason jar (any size will do) with a lid, a hot glue gun, and a drill (you can also use a cropodile or even a hammer and a nail), and a reusable straw!

Here is my mason jar: it a large one but it doesn't matter if you use a small one

I drilled a whole in the middle of the lid carefully. I had to use pliers to widen the whole so the straw would fit!

Here are the #14 Finishing Washers (in the package there are 4 of them and at Home Depot it is less than $2)

Hot Glue Gun: be careful

Fill the inside of the washer with hot glue (try not to overfill) & be careful because it's hot!

Repeat!

You're done!

Now the hard part is deciding what to drink first! For me I chose Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka & water. (I would have done lemonade but I unfortunately did not have any at my house!)
P.S. It literally just tastes like sweet tea!

Now if you aren't a Do It Yourselfer... Please feel free to ask me any questions. But I do have to warn you I am pretty new at this myself.

I think my next mason jar DIY will be to tint it! I might need some color suggestions.

xx
Raised Right

Edit: After I used my to-go up the #14 washer came loose. I suggest using something stronger. Like super glue, gorilla glue or apoxie! I used apoxie on mine and it works like a charm!

That's what best friends are for

Last night my best friend came home for Spring Break... She is in her first year of grad school and kicking ass! We have been friends since fourth grade and best friends since probably like ninth grade I think. I told her that I recently realized that I have a crush on someone and I gave her some hints such as: He went to Lynchburg, I am friends with him on facebook, and I think I've only actually met him once. And she knew right away who I was talking about. In my opinion that is when you know your best friend is your best friend! They can practically read your mind.

(Some random guy, Me, my best friend Melissa, her friend Jodie, and Joe at Lynchburg)

(My bestie & Me at Lynchburg)

A best friend is someone who is always there for you and I am lucky enough to have three best friends!

1. My sister Lisa:
(Me & My Sister Lisa: wearing Lilly)

2. My bestie Melissa:
(I am pretty wasted in this picture)

3. My best friend Sarah:
(Me & Sarah drinking southsides & wearing Lilly)

I have known my sister my whole life. We tell each other everything! Well most of the time! We fight like sisters but we talk like best friends. Melissa and I have known each other since the fourth grade and even though we weren't friends at first we became best friends over the years. Sarah and I have known each other since the sandbox. We drifted apart over the years but because of social media we have stayed in touch! Thankfully she came back into my life because I do not know what my life would be like without her... or even any of these three amazing people! They have certainly made me a better person which we all know I am probably going to hell cause I am a bitch! But I would do anything for my best friends and that is all that matters!

Throw Back Thursday

My Throw Back Thursday: Summer 2009

Christine, Jenny, & Me holding Bill.
From our outfits you may be able to tell that it was raining. Which is why we are wearing our foul weather jackets. #SailingInstructorProblems
Along with having to wear life jackets. I didn't usually mind wearing mine because it had to be my all time favorite life jacket! It is hard to tell but both my life jacket and foul weather jacket are both yellow which is hard to tell in this picture. Yellow just happens to be my favorite color.

My foul weather jacket is Henry-Lloyd and life jacket is Lotus (the life jacket I have is no longer made. For some time Patagonia made them but not anymore)

Please feel free to ask me any questions about sailing. I taught sailing for 4 years and have been sailing since I was a baby. So basically 22 years.

Girl Scout Cookie Time

One of my favorite things in the world is that time of year when I get my Girl Scout Cookies. My favorite are the Thin Mints. They are the best. Down at school there was a little smoothie shop that would make one using Thin Mints and it would have to be my favorite.

But what really annoys me is that each year the boxes get smaller and the prices go up! I do not think that it is fair to those who purchase them. I realize that the Girl Scouts probably make more by doing this but I would probably still buy the same amount no matter what size box they were in. I think we all need to complain about this!

I remember when my mother would buy so many boxes it was like Christmas Day. Of course we did not eat them right away. We had a freezer in the basement that we would store them in along with other food. Unfortunately, we do not have that freezer anymore thanks to Hurricane Sandy! We no longer buy as many Girl Scout Cookies because we find it offensive that they give us less and make us pay more. Now we will still buy them because they are so darn good but we can't buy as many as we used to.

Please let me know what your opinion is!

Bacon

Yesterday when I was in the City helping my sister set up her apartment we realized that we needed a step ladder to clean certain areas of her apartment. So of course my mother and I went to the hardware store to get one along with other items that she needed. We went to the one on 85th and 1st right next to the Starbucks! I think that hardware store is my favorite one I have ever been in! It had everything I could possibly want or need. The one thing I made my mother buy me was this:

A magnet with: I heart Bacon!

Now if any of y'all know me then you know that I love bacon more than anything. I will not share it with anyone. I don't like to share it even with my family! I have only share my bacon once and that was with my ex-boyfriend. And sometimes I regret it but other times I do not...

This afternoon when I woke up from some much needed sleep my daddy was making bacon and I must say waking up to bacon is the best way to wake up! I will never tell him this but sometimes I just want bacon and nothing else but my parents do not understand that.

Bacon & Scrambled Eggs

It is a little hard to tell but that is eight pieces of bacon and scrambled eggs. Now can any of you guess what I did next?

Some of you are probably thinking I ate everything on that plate. But you would be wrong! I ate my bacon slowly enjoying every delicious savory bite. Then brought my plate down stairs and gave the eggs to my wonderful golden retriever named Hoover.

I know I should have just sucked it up and ate my eggs but the truth is I just wanted the bacon. Can you blame me... It's FUCKING BACON!!!! I LOVE BACON!!!!

                                                                                                                                                                                               xx

Sister's Apartment

My sister moved into her apartment finally and it needed a lot of work. Her bathtub was rusty and so was her stove. Now I don't have any before pictures but trust me it was so disgusting!

Here is the bathtub with a combination of Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Salt! (Let it sit then scrub with a scrub brush or brillo!

An Improvement but not completely gone...

However the combination of Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide and Salt worked wonders on the stove!
The whole thing was covered in rust and now look at it.

(Warning: Wear gloves) ALSO: You will probably need to repeat this remedy a few times to get the results you desire! It will also take practically all day but it is an amazing work out!

My sister and my god-brother found this awesome couch at thrift store for $250!
OH did I mention that it is a pull out couch! It was a pain in the ass to carry it like four blocks and up a flight of stairs but it works perfectly in her apartment!

Sometimes I am a nice sister, this is proof: I MADE MY SISTER'S BED!

(I made that duck blanket... I gave it to my dog to use but then my sister decided she wanted it.)

More pictures to follow once she gets everything set up!

Coney Island

Tonight I went to a lecture on Coney Island. I'm not going to lie to y'all but I kinda fell asleep for the first half hour. It was kinda slow start and I was also just really tired. But I would have like to have heard more about the history and heard more about the fires that destroyed parts of the attractions. Obviously everyone's favorite part was at the end when speaker John B. Manbeck went into detail about the rides. However, the best part was brief because it was getting to the end and people were ready to leave. I had a very nice talk with a guy afterwards. He must have been mid-twenties and cute. He showed up to the lecture because his grandfather told him about it because he is writing a screenplay about Coney Island set in the 1930s. He said he wants it to be a love story like the Titanic. I was really tempted to tell him to make sure that Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't star in it because if he does I wont see it.

Overall it was a good night. I just wish I had felt better.

delayed but not for long

Slight delay on starting my work out. My only excuse is being sick sucks and takes energy out of me! Also yesterday I did some and by that I mean my dad and I carried a very heavy dresser up a flight of stairs for my sister. My sister started her move into the city yesterday. The funny thing was I was slow getting ready yesterday and my mom threatened to leave me at home while they moved my sister in and I just laughed at her! Probably the funniest thing my mother has ever said to me! There would be no way that my parents and my sister would be able to carry the dresser or anything else without my help! My sister couldn't even carry the microwave up the stairs and that barely weighed anything!

My arms are sore and my back is too a little but I am going to do some stretches so this doesn't happen again!

Today I am helping my mom cook. She is making her amazing pasta sauce! And even though I am sick I still get to help! It is actually very simple so I can hopefully be able to make it when I move to DC!

In other news, I going to email my mother's co-worker's daughter-in-law about getting a job. She works in HR in DC! I also need to email my former professor....

I really need to move down to DC quickly because I cannot handle living at home anymore!

I am really going to miss her but not for the reason y'all might think... I am going to miss her entertaining my mother. I love my mother don't get me wrong. I just don't like spending every moment with her. There are so many times I can watch the same episodes of How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, and Friends that I can watch over and over again.

I am going to watch some Community and keep warm in my bed on this semi-lazy Saturday!

Hottie Alert!!

I finally started watching the show Suburgatory and can I just say it is not what I expected. It is funny and well really the main reason I watch it is because of Parker Young! He is so cute and sexy (especially with his shirt off)!!!

Can you just say YUMMY!!!

Okay well on the show he plays a dumb jock but as the show progresses you really see his sensitive side and how he cares for someone other than himself. Even if he was a dumb jock in real life I would still love him but apparently he is very smart but decided to put off college to pursue acting which was probably an excellent decision because I have now found the guy I Love!!!
